7-23-2018 Gold Creek Trail, Mt. Roberts, and whale watching. Juneau Alaska

The northern lights were at a 5...but the night sky was just to light to see the lights.  This picture was taken at 3:20 a.m.  May have to wait till winter to see the northern lights again.

This picture was taken at 5:30 a.m.

This is the day before we head to Skagway to hike the Chilkoot.  We set up the tent, just to make sure we could!

Tressa and I decided we better start training for the big hike.  I'm not sure hiking the day before is enough training, but we gave it a try.  We hiked the Gold Creek Flume trail.  In all the times I've been to Juneau, I've never hiked this.  Loved it!  To all the people I've talked into going to Alaska, please go back and hike this!

Then we hiked Mount Roberts.  The trail markers were super inconsistent on the distance it is to hike to the tram, so it's somewhere around 2.5 miles to the top, who knows?!
How ever far it is, it's totally worth it.  This picture is taken up by the tram, and is looking onto Douglas Island.  There is a little circle around Caitlyn's condo.  I've blown up a portion of the above picture, so you can see Caitlyn's condo, and Caitlyn's rock.

I had Tressa take this picture so you could get an idea as to how big "the rock" is.

At this point, it would make sense to pack, since we have to leave at 5:15 tomorrow morning to catch the ferry to Skagway, but instead, we went whale watching.
Can you see how little that boat is?!  Do you know how big whales are?  Am I the only one that can see there may be a problem here?!  Brady, the boat owner can launch it by himself with his car.  Not a big boat!

Brady's dog took turns snuggling me and Caitlyn.  It would get really close to us!  The dog hates whales!  The dog would totally freak out when a whale would come up, so he was great to warn us when whales were around!

Me and Caitlyn with 2 glaciers in the background.  I know one was the Herbert, Caitlyn, whats the name of the other glacier?
 Here come the Orcas!
Super cool, but I have to admit I was a little weirded out when they would go under and we didn't know where they were going to surface again!

There are 3 spouts in this photo.

Ok, so we've seen the Orcas, or killer whales as they are called, time for a swim!
Brady was about the nicest guy ever....lets just leave it at that!
Who jumps in the water while watching Orcas?!!!

Ok, time to watch humpback whales.  They are fun to watch, and after the arch...

 ...comes the tail!

Some of us thought it was warmer than others of us!
Brady took us to this really cool beach that had lots of Fireweed.  I had wanted to take pictures in a field of Fireweed, and here was the perfect spot!

Yeah, this is our whale watching boat!
"We ain't afraid of no whale!"

 Loved this beach!

I'm loving all these posts - It's the Eagle (further north, or left) and Herbert (south/right) glaciers!
