The Pfeifferhorn

Dean and I, along with our friend Jay, went on an awesome hike today to the top of the Pfeifferhorn.

Jay took a ton of pictures and is going to send them to us.  I'll post more when we get those.
Here I am sitting on the top of the Pfeifferhorn.
Right above my knee in the background is Lone Peak.

This is a picture from when we hiked Loan Peak 2 years ago, with the arrow pointing to the Pfeifferhorn in the background.  The Pfeifferhorn is about 100 feet higher than Loan Peak.
Click Here if you would like to see the post about our Lone Peak hike in 2010.

Here I am with both Red Pine Lake, and the Upper Red Pine Lake in the background.

This is a picture taken from Red Pine Lake looking up at the Pfeifferhorn.

(This is a picture taken from the internet.  Will have to do till I get the pictures from today's hike)

I found this cool lamppost on KSL.com.
Deaner put it up today.
I like.

Amanda, Braden, and Caitlyn....do you guys remember these?  We used them in our old house for Family Home Evening assignments.  I think we should do it again...looks like I'll do the lesson, Dad will do the game.  Manda, you got song, Caitlyn, you are on prayers, and most importantly, Braden, you have treats!
I'm going to keep them out, just cuz they made me smile!

Park City Marathon and Half

Yeah....because this week hasn't been busy enough, let's top it off with running a marathon!
This morning was the Park City Marathon.  It was perfect running weather.  The course wasn't an easy one, an out and back, but the scenery was awesome. Dean ran the Full, and Erika ran the Half.
Here is Dean just about to finish the marathon.

Dean has been recovering from an injury (seriously, this is the biggest ugliest bruise I have ever seen), and this is a tough course, so he knew he wasn't going to get his fastest time, but he did great anyway.  He got off to a bad start, took a wrong turn on the route so added and extra 0.4 mile, because, let's face it, 26.2 just isn't long enough!

Dean and our friend Alisha finished the race together.

At the end of the race they gave use cold washcloths, that's the lovely headdress Dean is wearing in this picture.

Dean and Erika right after the race.

You knew it was coming, the picture with our finisher's medals and our new t-shirts.  No, these aren't forced smiles at all.....wow, we need to work on that!

Dean and I have been able to go to Education week all week long....I absolutely love going, but it does make life a little crowded!
Tuesday we got up early so we could be down at BYU at 8:30 a.m. so we could start with the first hour of classes offered.  I get to go to a variety of classes, while Dean has to go to all the legal classes so he can earn his CLE (continuing legal education) credits.  He has to get 24 hours of credit every 2 years.
Tuesday was also my birthday.  I was so excited for Dex to come up, and Manda too, but Dex has faithfully watched our tomato plants grow, and we finally got a ripe tomato!

Krista, Kendra, Chandler, and James came over to visit for my birthday, and to give me a really cool fishing tool set.  They were here for the picking of our tomato!

I'm new at this gardening stuff, but correct me if I'm wrong, but this green pepper looks a little small to me.  Anyone ever grown a green pepper?  Did it get any bigger than the one shown here?!

Dex and I went in and ate our tomato.
Dex was excited about it, but I don't think he really liked eating it.

Now back to Education week....
I went to a class about organizing your home.  Wednesdays lecture was about having a functional and efficient kitchen.  So I came home and emptied out my cubboards, just like the instructor said to do.  I was interrupted by Dean, reminding me that we had a concert to go to, and had to leave NOW!
So I wasn't able to to finish my project...
Yep, this is how my kitchen looked when we left.

We went to the concert, and got home late, and had to get up early Thursday morning to head back down to Provo for another day of awesome classes.
Dean was just a little annoyed at me for jumping into the project, because we were having a dinner party at our house Thursday evening!  Oops, my bad.
We got home from classes and I worked my tail off putting my kitchen back together, making the dinner, and  then putting on the facade that I had things under control as our guests showed up.

Yes, this is what my kitchen looked like as the bishops and their wives started arriving.

We had a great evening....but I have to admit, I am a little tired!

Tomorrow is our last day of classes.  I have LOVED the one on organization.  Others that I have really enjoyed are "Finding funding for Graduate Schools", "Busting the myths about learning a foreign language as an adult", and "Being the best person you can be".

Amazing views

This picture is a few days old.  It's the view we had from the fire at Camp Williams.  Made for a really eerie sky.

This morning we got up at 5:30 am to hike Mount Tuscarora and Mount Wolverine.  We didn't want to hike in the heat.  Right at the beginning of the trail head we saw these two bull moose.

Absolutely amazing views.  Lots of wildlife to see too.

We went with Bob and Chantal Searle, and Jay Ralls (the guy taking the picture).  We are all planning to hike Kings Peak in a couple weeks, so we are doing hikes to get us in shape.

Up on the top of the mountains the views are amazing!!!

You can't really tell from this picture, but in the center we are looking back at copper mines right by our house.

Yep, we had to come down this huge rock pile.
This picture shows two of  the peaks we just finished climbing.  You can't see Mount Tuscarora from this angle.

While we were sitting up on the top, we were able to see into the Salt Lake Valley, Heber, and Woodland.

Congrats Dr. Francis

Today was Graduation Day at BYU.
Amanda was awarded her Phd.

Dr. Jarvis is the professor that Amanda did her research with.

This was so cute, Dex had just asked Grandma Ellis if he could go to her house.  He loves his great grandparents!

I love these guys!  3 Generations all in tan pants.
