Thanksgiving in Helena 11-24-16

Caitlyn is in town....kind of.
After Livy gave her hugs and wished her a happy birthday, we hit the road and headed to Montana.

Road trippin' it on Caitlyn's birthday!

Mike and Amanda purchased this buffet table for their master bathroom,  It looks awesome!  Now they have to install a sink in it.

Grandkids love wrestling with Grandpa Deaner!

Next project is the range hood.  They used slats from their back fence.  It looks amazing!

Amanda applies oil to the wood, and it makes the colors and character of the wood stand out!

Thanksgiving 2016
Signing up for the Turkey Trot in Helena
At the start line.  Absolutely no wind.  Perfect running weather!

Noticed these cool sewer covers on our run.

For some reason, the kids decided this was the perfect holiday for dress-up!  We had Darth Vader, a ninja turtle, and batman for Thanksgiving!

This yarn kept the kids entertained while we watched Gilmore Girls.....totally worth the mess we had to clean up afterwards.
Next project, Barn door for the master bathroom.  Once again, using the slats from the back fence.

Nora decided chap-stick would be nice in the outlet.  Oh, Nora!

....still have a couple more days here, so more pictures of projects to come!

Monument Peak and East Mountain 11-15-2016

Middle of November, and in the 70's, so we decided we better get out and hike!  Our goal was to "bag" three county high points in one day.
The first peak, you could drive to.  It was about an hour on dirt roads.  It was windy and freezing at the top, but now we can check Monument Peak off our list.  Highest point in Carbon County.

Next up, East Mountain, high point for Emery county.
We had bad directions to the trail-head, and then this sign at the trail-head made us think it was only a one mile hike.  Nope, one mile to the trail leading up to the peak, which was another mile and a half with some pretty serious elevation gain!  This hike took much longer than we had planned.  It was a really cool hike though.  The view at the top was worth the hike.  Once again, it was very windy and cold at the summit, but perfect temperature to hike up there in.
This is a frozen stream we had to cross.  Pretty cool!

At this point, we are pretty tired and ready to find the top.  We guessed those to tree tops off to the left of Dean were going to be the summit.  WRONG!  They were about 1/2 the way to the summit from where we were!  It just went on and on!
Finally!  We found the geological marker!

After a long time of driving on dirt road, but before we got to the trail-head of our next peak, we came across a road closed sign.  We drove around it, and apparently they weren't kidding....the road was impassable!  So we had to turn around, and we will have to approach it from a different direction, another day.  It wasn't a total waste, we got to see some pretty awesome sites.
