15 miles

So this week's long run was to be 15 miles. We liked the route Dean made for the 1/2 marathon so we started up Yellow Fork Canyon at the trailhead but this time we ended up at 106th South and the Jordan River. This route took us past our house at mile 8.24 - good place for an aid station...

Here comes Deaner!

He downed the grapefruit juice, and was off to finish the rest of the run.

Then it was EJ's turn...

Dean dropped me off at the trailhead, and then had 1/2 peanut butter sandwich for me at mile 8, and then rode his bike to catch up with me at mile 11, and gave me water. Now that's service!
Dean ran on Wednesday, and I ran it today (Friday). We do it this way just in case one of us starts having any issues, the other can come to the rescue. Trying to get these long runs in is a little tricky, working around weather, Dean's work appointments, and other races we are running. Next weekend's run will be the relay race in southern Utah.

Dam 2 Dam 2-20-10

Today we ran the Dam 2 Dam race around Sand Hollow Reservoir. It was so dang cold!

Ej had her worst race ever, but makes it easier for next race to be an improvement, right? 3 minutes slower than her last 5 mile race, 8th in her age division....ouch. This run "kicked her trash"! Some random guy gave her this bag because he didn't want to have to carry it on the airplane home.

This wasn't Dean's best race either, but it was good enough to give him a 1st place in his age division. Not as fast as his last 5 mile race. After talking about what might have been our problem this race, it could have been that we gave blood and ran a 1/2 marathon earlier this week, ran on gravel instead of asphalt, had a wicked head wind, or all of the above. It was still fun to have run it.

...and then there's Julie. I guess chasing after those 7 kids really pays off. She won 1st in her age division, and 5th overall! She just keeps getting better and better! It is really fun to have her run these races with us! Great job Julie!!!

No race post would be complete without showing off our new race shirts.

Happy Anniversary!

Usually for our anniversary we take a trip to somewhere warm. This year we decided to do something different, we got us each a good road bike. (now we need to go somewhere warm to ride them....I'm no dummy!)

Oh....this is going to be fun!

Rose Canyon Half Marathon 2-15-10

Yep, the first Rose Canyon Half Marathon

Starting point, the trail head up Yellow Fork Canyon in Herriman, took us through Herriman, Riverton, Bluffdale, and ended in Draper.
It was a little cold and rainy at the start line.

This race was organized by Dean. Ej had to run 13 miles for one of her runs this week, so Dean decided it should be a half marathon, complete with aid stations...

Water, Gatoraide, and cliff blocks placed at different locations throughout the route. He also planned the route so we would have plenty of restrooms along the way...just incase.

So you could take what you needed at the aid stations, and then just toss it aside, and after the race we went back to gather the discarded food and drink. Braden had tossed this off the side of the road, and it landed up side down!

As happens quite often at our races, Caitlyn was at the finish line, with the camera, ice, and water for us...she is awesome! Here comes Erika, she got to the finish line first, since the guys gave her a 40 minute head start!

Oh look, here come Randy and Dean....wait, aren't you forgetting someone? What about Braden?
Braden got stomach sickness around mile 6, had to take a restroom break...was close to home, so wasn't able to finish the race.

Here are the finishers....each taking 1st place in their age divisions! And yes, Dean has been watching way to much of the Olympics, he was way to anxious to get to the "Podium"!
...then all of a sudden, Braden shows up! He had to be running fast because Randy and Dean never saw him again after the rest room break, so assumed he went home. He finished! Great job Braden!

Here are the ALL the finishers of the Rose Canyon Half Marathon 2010!

Valentines Day 2010

Valentines Dinner
We got to have Caitlyn come down, and Braden and 2 of his roommates, and the girls from #16 over for dinner. It was so fun to have these guys over!

Grandma's cabin

We love going to Grandma's cabin! Braden took a group of friends up, roommates, and the girls from Apt #16. That's how the boys refer to them. Martin Luther King day weekend.

The squirrels decided the snowmobile was a great place to make a nest!

Dean and Braden went up on Saturday to play. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for sharing this great place!

I got to take President Nielsen's family pictures.

This is what it would look like if Jeff and Julie had their own planet. Don't ya love Photoshop!
