On to the South Island of New Zealand

(to view the 3 blog posts from the North Island click HERE)

From Wellington, on the North Island, we took the ferry to Picton, which is on the South Island.
Here is Caitlyn, with the city of Wellington in the background.
We had extremely rough water, and crazy winds.  They wouldn't let anyone out on the observation decks because it was so rough.

Trying hard not to get sick, because we weren't allowed outside in the crazy weather.

I think this is Caitlyn's least favorite moment in the whole trip!  Dean cooking one of his pre-packaged meals over a little burner, in a parking lot!  So funny!!!

Before I go any further, let me explain.  Dean went on this trip for all hiking/camping.  Erika went on this trip for all the photo opportunities, and Caitlyn went on this trip to experience the food from the different countries.  She told us, she will NOT eat anything that comes out of a box, or  comes through the car window, and it has to be able to rot.

We went into the Nelson's lakes National park's visitors center to see which hike they suggested we go on.
We had one in mind because it was about the right distance for what we wanted to do.  The lady working there told us not to do it, to do another one, because the one we wanted to do wasn't a very neat waterfall.
We went on the one we picked anyway.  It was called Whisky Falls.
The hike up was awesome, so it really didn't matter if the falls weren't much.

 Lake Rotoiti
These eels kind of freaked us out!  They were huge!

This is Whisky falls!  It was huge, and It was awesome!!!!  I'm 100% sure that lady has never been up here or there is no way she would tell people it's not worth the hike.   So cool!

After the hike we drove to  Westport, NZ.  We found a seal colony and watched the sun set.

Caitlyn got herself Indian food that night.
For some reason she didn't want one of our meals.
This was where we called home that evening.
Camping in Westport.
Yes, we hauled 3 sleeping bags, a tent, and about 20 freeze dried meals, and a butane stove half way around the world!  (you've got to love Deaner!)

Did you eat all of those meals? Quite a camping trip!
