Day 6, last full day in Juneau, Alaska

So this is our last full day in Juneau.
We got up and walked downtown to watch the planes take off - definitely one of my favorite things we have done here!

Loved being down on the boardwalk.

Dean is pointing to our hotel, the Baranof.

We decided to take a tour of the State Capitol building, and then on the the observation deck at the State Office Building or SOB as Caitlyn called it.

After walking around town, we decided to do one last hike.  Perserverance Trail.

This place is like a jungle!  The vegetation there was amazing!

The scenery was so amazing!  In the picture above, right above the snow were a couple of mountain goats that we watched.   I was too lazy to bring my heavy camera with a zoom, so you will just have to take my word for it that they were there!  Pretty awesome.
Dean wanted to see a bear so bad!  There were warning signs up along this trail that a mother and her cubs were in the area, so to be careful.  We know they were close, cuz this was some pretty fresh scat.  That was as close to seeing a bear as we got on this hike.

This was the opening to the mine, which is no longer in use.  There was freezing air coming out of here.  You could feel it down the trail as you approached the entrance to the mine.  Caitlyn told us that beer companies store beer in there because year round it stays cold.

Caitlyn took us for a walk around the airport.
 Watching the planes.  Great entertainment!

This piece of tree was huge!!!

Yep, they are kind of weird!

The last sunset we will see in Alaska.

Ok, so after we went for our walk around the airport, we all went over to Caitlyn's place to catch a little bit of sleep before we went back to the airport to watch the northern lights.  They were supposed to be awesome that night around 2 a.m..  I'm sure they would have been, if we could have seen them, the northern sky was too light for us to see them.  Disappointed we didn't see the lights, but had an amazing trip!  We flew out in the morning.

Such a cool adventure! I think Jonathan should go there next summer so we can visit him!
