Uncle Jimmy

This is my Uncle Jimmy

Uncle Jimmy is my mom's brother.
He died Friday, September 3, 2010, in Grand Junction, Colorado.

We got the news of his passing while were at Lake Powell (Powell post to come later). We got home from Powell saturday night, and headed for Colorado monday. We rode over to Grand Junction with my parents. Monday evening we attended a viewing. I really enjoyed reconnecting with family. The funeral mass was held on tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. It was a really nice service. Uncle Jimmy was a huge baseball fan, so as the casket was being wheeled out at the end of the service, they played the song "Take me out to the Ball Game." I did pretty good holding back tears until then. Perfect song for the occasion.

Here are some of Uncle Jimmy's family.
Ej's cousin Teri and Aunt Lucille sitting down at the graveside service.

Wayne visiting with Jack, Pam's boyfriend.

Dorleen visiting with Ej's cousin Chris.

After the graveside service, we decided it would be nice to visit the site of Grandma Burn's grave. Turned out to be quite the adventure! The sprinklers were on, and I can testify to the fact that they have great overlapping coverage! Trying to dodge the sprinklers, while looking for a headstone. None of us really could remember where it was....it's only been 17 years since we have been here. It was not an easy task.
Ej trying to dodge sprinklers, and not doing a very good job of it!

We found it! This is my Grandma and Grandpa Burns' headstone.

This is the group that ran through the sprinklers together. Starting from the right, Wayne, Erin, Krista, Dorleen, Tana, Ej, Dianna, and Kendra (plus Dean, holding the camera).

Dean and Ej.

We put sticks or whatever we could find in the sprinklers to stop them from rotating.
I highly recommend running through the spinklers with extended family after a funeral. Kind of lightens the mood a little. Those family members that did not participate thanked us for the entertainment!

After the graveyard services we had a yummy lunch at Chris' amusement park "Bananas."
It was sad to say good-bye to Uncle Jimmy, but really nice to see the Burns side of my family.

Thanks for posting on Uncle Jimmy. Am sure he would have been having a giggle to himself to see everybody trying to trip the light fantastic through the sprinklers.

You guys even make funerals look fun! Your grandpa was my age when he died! Scarry!
