Day 2 in Hawaii

Matt and Angie gave us their whole Saturday!  We saw so many amazing things, but mostly we enjoyed our time getting to know these guys!  Matt tried to teach Dean to be cool....yeah, we will keep working on that.

Dang, now Dean is cool, and I have to work on it!
Oh yeah, in the background is a black sand beach, which was amazing, and we get to come back and visit it again later in the week!

Matt and Angie showed us so many beautiful places.  We struggle trying to be normal in pictures!

Akaka Falls

Next up, the botanical gardens, and once again, awkward pictures.

We had lunch at a park in Hilo.  So bummed that this is the only picture of the 4 of us.

Pohoiki Beach.
The 2018 Kilauea eruption created Hawaii's newest black sand beach.

This is where the lava flow went over the road.

Fissure #8

This was eerie!  This fissure is still smoking!
Seeing where the lava came through the neighborhood, and wiped out everything in its path was so interesting!  (kind of weird standing on top of a smoking spatter cone)

On to the lava tube.
Walking through where the lava had flowed was so cool!  There are lights inside to guide you through it.

At dark, we hiked out to the lookout where you can actually see the lava flowing!
So amazing!

We packed tons into the day!
Matt and Angie are amazing tour guides!
