Julie's Grand 2 Grand, Bagging Andy Nelson Peak

Saturday, September 28, 2013
My sister in law, Julie, was participating in a 170 mile race.  It averaged about a marathon a day.  One day's run was 52 miles.   Oh yeah, they had to pack everything they would need for the race and carry it with them. (sleeping bag, clothing, food, etc.) We decided to drive down to Southern Utah to cheer her on at the finish line.
 She is amazing!
Do you think she missed her family?!

This was an international race.  She now has friends from all over the world!
After we got to see that Julie really survived this, we decided to go "bag" a couple of county high peaks.

Apparently there was a crisis going on in the stake.  So this is how Dean looked on a lot of our weekend.
This trail was to take us to the highest peak in Kane county, Andy Nelson peak.

Dean had his "High in Utah" hiking book, and we were off.  Somewhere, we took a wrong turn.  The peak in the background of the picture below is the one we were trying for.  But on top of the "wrong" peak, we found this little shelter.
We were able to see tons of deer!

Ok, this is what we were looking for.  This weird stack of rocks marks the high point.

I used the stack of rocks as a tri-pod.  You can't tell very well from this picture, but without intending to, we both wore green pant and our Ogden Marathon shirts.  We looked kind of silly all "matchy-matchy".
Yep, on the top of Andy Nelson peak there is cell service, in case you were wondering.

That is crazy - the running part! Your grandkids are adorable, BTW.

Cool pictures. You should always wear matching clothes when you hike! I love the shot up to the trees!
