Maui, Hawaii, June 12-20, 2017

Maui, Hawaii  2017

Tuesday, 6/13/2017
We flew in to Maui at 9 pm, Monday night.  Didn't get to the house until around 11:30 p.m., and had to get up at 2:15 a.m. to watch the sunrise on Haleakala.  It was so stinkin' cold!  But totally worth it!

Apparently, this is how you dress when you are on Maui!

The start of our 11 mile hike.

Haleakala Silverswords grow inside the crater.  They live up to 90 years, bloom once, and then die.

 About half way...

Stopped for lunch, and a few Nenes decided to join us.  The Nene is Hawaii's state bird.

...and this is what a hissing Nene looks like when you get too close to it.

Yoga on the rim of the crater.

Done, and the jacket stayed on the whole time.

Back to the house to watch our first Maui sunset, and have the fishermen out on the point entertain us.

Walked along the shore, and saw some amazing sights!

(No flowers were harmed in the taking of this picture.)

Now that was a little awkward trying to get into that hammock.  Glad there wasn't video!

Shopping in Lahaina, and checking out the huge Banyan tree.  This tree is over 40 feet tall, and its canopy's circumference spans a quarter-mile.

Janna and Dan surprised us with dinner and a magic show.  Really a fun day.

One of our favorite things we did in Maui was walk the Village golf course.  The course was designed by Arnold Palmer, but closed in 2007.  Now its walking paths through really cool vegetation with amazing views.  I think it turned out to be about a 5 mile loop.

Found some yummy fruit.  Hope it's not poisonous.

Dan and Janna, with the island of Molokai in the background.

Janna doesn't love my "stick this tree limb behind your ear for a flower pose" picture.
She will, Given time.

A real pineapple!  I thought it was cool.

This is the view from the house we were staying at.  (that is Molokai in the distance)  We could sit and watch the waves all day long, never tire of this view!

Snorkling and sunbathing.  I could get used to this!

There were some friendly turtles in the little bay.
Never got tired of seeing them either.

Road to Hana
This was a cool park, you could see the Pacific Ocean on both sides of this narrow strip of land.

Aaron our guide.  He was cool.

Had to include this picture.  There is an inside story to this, so needed a recorded of it.  The end.

If you go beyond the sign that tells you not to go beyond the sign, this is what you get to see!

The bamboo forest is awesome!

Dan and I thought we looked pretty cool in our rain ponchos.

Next stop Wai'anapanapa State Park.
Black sand beaches.
,

 Yep, that's Deaner out there.

 Deaner

 Dean, Dan, and Janna

Is it just me, or is Mowgli watching me from the bank?
